Nature. Culture. People. Beer.
Discover the variety of the Polish-Saxon cross-border
region on the Polish-German Beer Route!

About the project

For centuries, beer brewing has proliferated in the Polish-Saxon cross-border region. Beer has been an important element of everyday life and has shaped the cultural landscape of this part of Europe. Written historical sources describe the mosaic of local breweries situated in almost every city of the region. The privilege of brewing granted to the city by the monarch opened the possibility to create own beer brand which over time was becoming the city’s landmark.

The “Polish-German Beer Route” is the first initiative that aims at establishing an international project related to the brewing traditions of the two countries. The idea has come from the Foundation for Landscape Protection from Jelenia Góra (Poland). The project will promote the cultural and natural heritage of the Polish-Saxon cross-border area (see map). We believe that the Beer Route can become a flagship tourist project of the region.

At present, the concept of the “Polish-German Beer Route” is being prepared and the stakeholders from the region are invited to contribute to it. The Beer Route implementation project will be submitted in the next call for proposals within the Interreg Polska-Sachsen programme. If accepted, it will be implemented jointly by the Polish and German institutions between 2018-2020.
